Gnattali is one of Brazil’s most important 20th century composers alongside Villa-Lobos, Mignone, Guarneri and choro counterpart Pixinguinha. His works portray him as a stylistic chameleon, equally at home in classical, jazz and clearly Brazilian genres.

Remexendo (1943) is an excellent illustration of Gnattali’s seamless incorporation of jazz and classical elements into the mainstream choro tradition.
